To cheer up his workmates, Uncle Daffyd

decided to give them all funny nicknames

A man who was bald he called ‘Baldy’

‘Strong One’ was a man who was strong

‘Talk-a-lot’ was a miner who talked a lot

And one with bad breath he called ‘Pong’.

‘Taffy’ he nicknamed a Welshman

(and there were hundreds and hundreds of course)

‘Big Bottom’ a man with a big bottom

And one with a long face he called ‘Horse’.

The habit quickly caught on and soon his workmates

had a nickname for Uncle Daffyd. They called him:

‘The Not Very Funny Coal miner’.
